Doosan Robotics and Kyochon F&B have agreed to introduce chicken frying robots at the country's popular fried chicken franchise locations, the major robotic developer said, Monday.

Last Thursday, representatives of the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on expanding a robotic chicken fryer throughout Kyochon's nationwide network of restaurants. Doosan Robotics co-CEOs Park In-won and Ryu Jung-hoon, Kyochon Vice Chairman Song Jong-hwa and President and CEO Yoon Jin-ho signed the deal at Bundang Doosan Tower in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

Under the deal, Doosan will provide the robots to Kyochon, which will start automating its cooking processes.

The two firms have agreed to employ the first machine at Kyochon's headquarters in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, within this month. They will also promote the robots to Kyochon restaurants and encourage franchise owners to use the machine.

The robots will follow Kyochon's cooking practice that first deep-fries chickens, removes excessive batter and then deep-fries them again. The robot's efficiency will play a key role in the double deep-frying process by realizing uniform quality and taste for all chicken pieces, according to Doosan.

The robot can run six deep-frying baskets simultaneously, cooking up to 24 chickens per hour. The robot's deep-frying arm is also fixed on the machine's top section, which saves restaurant operators the trouble of setting it up and taking it out every time they use the robot.

According to Doosan, the robot has been certified with food safety by the U.S. National Sanitation Foundation.

"Kyochon F&B, with its 1,370 restaurants nationwide, is our ideal partner to consistently provide our new robot," Ryu said.

Doosan previously signed deals with other food and beverage companies in the country including Robert Chicken, CJ Foodville, Ourhome and XYZ to provide them with helping robots.
