Personal care manufacturer Yuhan-Kimberly celebrated the 20th anniversary of its reforestation project in Tujiin Nars, Selenge Province, and held a ceremony there, the company said Thursday.

Yuhan-Kimberly started the project in 2003 in cooperation with the Northeast Asian Forest Forum and the Mongolian government to restore the forests and prevent desertification in the Tujiin Nars region, which was severely damaged by large fires in 1988.

The company's continuous efforts and mutual cooperation with its partners resulted in cultivating 3,250 hectares of Yuhan-Kimberly Forest in the region. It is 11 times bigger than Yeouido and is considered a successful example of desertification prevention and forest restoration.

CEO of Yuhan-Kimberly Chin Jea-seung, Director of the Northeast Asian Forest Forum Park Jong-ho and Director General of the Department of Forest Policy and Coordination of Mongolia Byambasuren Oyunsanaa attended the anniversary ceremony held at Yuhan-Kimberly Forest.

“When Yuhan-Kimberly declared its goal to plant 1 billion trees in Mongolia, I visited Yuhan Kimberly Forest in Tujiin Nars and talked about the possibility of the project to the people of Mongolia. It is that much of valuable asset and very meaningful to us. I want to thank Yuhan-Kimberly for its efforts during the past 20 years,” Oyunsanaa said.

The CEO also met with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh at his residence in Ulaanbaatar on June 23, who expressed gratitude for Yuhan-Kimberly's achievement. The company also shared the result of its 20 years of reforestation projects with the president.

“Yuhan-Kimberly Forest is a meaningful achievement done by various stakeholders, including the Northeast Asian Forest Forum, the Mongolian government and local residents, who agreed on the importance of restoring the forest to prevent desertification. We will continue our efforts to preserve its value,” Chin said.
