Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars' best-selling XC60 has been selected as the most-preferred imported SUV for family use by Korea's largest online used car sales platform K-Car, the company said Wednesday.

In May, K-Car surveyed 800 people in their 30s and 40s asking about their favorite family car and 39 percent of them picked the SUV. Volvo's XC60, in particular, was picked by 28.7 percent of participants, becoming the most-preferred family car by young parents.

Safety was the most important consideration when choosing a family car.

Over 35 percent of respondents said they look at car crash test results or accident prevention functions, such as advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous emergency braking when choosing a family car.

Between January and May, the XC60 accounted for 28.1 percent of Volvo's overall sales becoming the most-sold car within the brand. The company sold a total of 1,125 XC60s during the period demonstrating a 77 percent year-on-year sale growth.

Volvo's SUV gained popularity for its advanced safety technology and digital service packages specialized for the domestic market, which have been recognized for their superior marketability compared to competitors' equivalents.

The Swedish carmaker is the world's first company to integrate an Android-powered infotainment service with its cars.

The XC60 is also the first model to be equipped with the integrated T-Map infotainment service jointly developed by T-Map Mobility and Volvo by infusing 30 billion won ($23.48 million).

A driver can search for directions to a destination conveniently and use various infotainment services by speaking to a virtual assistant.
