Lotte chief meets envoys from 30 countries to promote Busan's Expo bid

Lotte Group Chairman Shin Dong-bin hosted the 15th-anniversary event of the establishment of Asia Society Korea, inviting 30 ambassadors to Busan to promote Busan's 2030 Expo bid, according to the company, Tuesday.
The 15th-anniversary event of Asia Society Korea was held for two days through Tuesday. Ambassadors from 30 countries visited Busan Port, a candidate site for the 2030 World Expo in Busan along with other government and company officials including Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon and Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Woo Tae-hee.
Asia Society Korea, a private diplomatic organization, was established by Chairman Shin. Since its official launch in April 2008, Shin has served as its chairman, working to enhance understanding of Asia and expand cultural and diplomatic exchanges based on close cooperation with foreign embassies.
Asia Society Korea has focused intensively on issues and current affairs encompassing politics, economy, security, society and culture, with experts from various fields discussing international relations and the future of the Korean Peninsula.
Chairman Shin and the ambassadors visited the Naval Operations Headquarters, Tuesday morning, and participated in the naval memorial ceremony and wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice and honor fallen soldiers.
Afterward, they visited the North Port of Busan Port, a candidate site for the Expo. The port is undergoing redevelopment projects through urban regeneration. It is being viewed as the optimal venue for the Expo because it has a three-dimensional transportation network that can utilize the advantages of both inland and maritime areas.
Chairman Shin visited the Expo promotion office and candidate sites, accompanied by ambassadors from 30 countries to promote the attractiveness of Busan and its potential to host the Expo.
Chairman Shin has been actively utilizing global networks to promote Busan's Expo bid. Shin visited the KLPGA Lotte Open and promoted the Expo at the gallery, Saturday. He also attended the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) held in Kyoto, Japan, and requested support for the Expo to be hosted in Busan to global executives there, Wednesday.
