LS Group opened a center in Hanoi, Vietnam, Thursday, in collaboration with the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA), to provide employment and childcare assistance to Korean-Vietnamese households known as "Hanbe."
According to the Hanoi Hanbe Family Association, the number of such households in Vietnam increased from about 500 in 2016 to 2,200 last year.
LS Group opened the LS Dream Center, a four-story building with six rooms, in the center of Hanoi, where many Hanbe households reside. The company plans to offer computer-based self-reliance education, family counseling, parenting education and child education at the center to contribute to solving local social problems.
LS Group CEO Ahn Won-hyung and Korean Ambassador to Vietnam Oh Young-joo attended the opening ceremony of the LS Dream Center.
"As a first-generation company that entered Vietnam in 1996 and a leading company in the power cable and low-voltage power equipment industries, LS has been actively engaged in various social contribution activities," LS Group CEO Ahn Won-hyung said. "We sincerely hope that the newly opened LS Dream Center will serve as a cornerstone for the growth of Hanbe families and their second-generation children."
LS Group established LS-VINA, a power cable manufacturer in Haiphong when it entered Vietnam in 1996. Currently, LS Cable & System, LS Electric, LS Mtron, and LS Metal operate local production subsidiaries. E1 is also currently pushing for the construction of its first overseas LPG tank terminal near Haiphong.
