POSCO celebrates return to normal operation of typhoon-hit facilities

POSCO held an event to commemorate the completion of a 135-day-long restoration process of its main steel mill in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, which was severely damaged by Typhoon Hinnamnor last September, the steel maker said Sunday. “I would like to express my infinite gratitude to the citizens of Pohang who have always supported and encouraged us during the disaster recovery period.”
“I also want to express gratitude to many people who provided bottled water, snacks, lunches and bread to the restoration site,” Choi Jeong-woo, chairman of POSCO Group, said during the event in the country's southeastern city, Friday.
“POSCO will not forget their valuable help and take the lead in the economic development of Korea,” the chairman added.
The event was designed to express the company's gratitude to employees and officials from the related organizations that helped normalize the steel mill's operations.
In September, POSCO's Pohang steel mill were flooded but operations were completely normalized as of Jan. 30, 135 days after the devastating weather event.
The chairman delivered plaques of appreciation to the Pohang city government, 1st Marine Division, North Gyeongsang Province Fire Service Headquarters and its partner companies that took the lead in supporting the restoration of the steel mill.
