Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Group has showcased its green and digital technologies to 38,000 attendees and 750 exhibitors from around 60 countries, during the four-day Gastech 2022 event held in Milan, Italy, the company said, Tuesday.
According to the group, President Chung Ki-sun of HD Hyundai, the group's holding firm, and 30 other executives and employees in charge of sales, research and engineering attended the world's largest event for the gas industry, in order to introduce the company's shipbuilding technologies for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier vessels.
HHI Group also made efforts at the venue to support Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030, by placing banners and brochures at its booth to promote Korea's second-largest city.
In addition, it was recognized for its eco-friendly and digitized shipbuilding technologies during the event, as it earned various technical certifications from global institutions and signed multiple memorandum of understandings (MOUs) with other companies.
In particular, the American Bureau of Shipping and the Marshall Islands Registry gave an Approval in Principle to HHI Group, Hyundai Glovis and G-Marine Service for their joint development of a 74,000-cubic-meter class liquefied carbon dioxide carrier, the world's largest vessel of its kind.
Avikus, HHI Group's subsidiary specializing in autonomous navigation technology, also signed an MOU with the Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry and DNV, a Norway-based international accredited registration and classification society, for technical certification of its level 2 autonomous navigation system, HiNAS 2.0.
“At Gastech 2022, we were clearly recognized as a pioneer of future-proof ships,” an HHI Group official said. “Our group will lead the way in the paradigm shift towards the green and digital transitions and successfully complete the commercialization of the technologies.”
