Renault Samsung Motors' new XM3 crossover SUV has been gaining popularity not only in the local market but worldwide.

According to the company, 4,658 XM3 SUVs were sold last month, accounting for 53 percent of the carmaker's total sales, becoming a best-selling model among Renault Samsung's vehicle lineup.

The design of the vehicle was well-received in the compact SUV market, and the newly released model is swiftly gaining popularity. The company has added an exterior color that targets younger drivers and implemented a new in-car payment system enabling the customer to order, receive and pay for goods and services more conveniently.

The in-car payment system can be used for diverse services such as at cafes, gas stations and convenience stores. If the customer pays a delivery fee, they can easily receive deliveries right to their own car.

The new XM3 added a remote ignition feature and the driver can operate the air conditioner before entering the vehicle to create a pleasant driving environment. Various IT devices were installed to better suit the tastes of younger drivers, who are known to value convenience.

When compared to last year, Renault Samsung's total sales declined by 30 percent. But considering the automotive chip shortage and 900 customers waiting to receive their vehicles, the actual number of clients has been increasing.

The new crossover SUV was well-received in Europe where it was unveiled last December and sales officially began in the first half of this year. Three additional exterior colors were added and the number of hybrid versions was also increased.

Due to the changes, 83 percent of exports were the XM3 model, marking an increase of 10,000 vehicles or 7,000 percent in export sales compared to the same period last year.

The company believes sales of the XM3 will continue to surge with the easing of the automotive chip shortage and resolution of wage negotiations with the company's union.

“Thanks to the XM3, which has become the best-selling model, Renault Samsung is expected to see a continuous rise in sales,” a Renault Samsung official said. “We will continue striving to produce satisfactory products.”
