POSCO Engineering & Construction has completed the structural work for Haeundae LCT The Sharp, a high-rise apartment complex in Busan, after 1,272 days since the buildings' groundbreaking in October 2015.
Haeundae LCT The Sharp consists of three buildings, a 411.6-meter 101-story landmark tower overlooking Busan's Haeundae beach and two 85-story residential apartments both 339.1 meters high.
The Landmark Tower will include a six-star tourist hotel that will be operated by Lotte Hotels & Resorts, a serviced apartment for long-term stays and an observatory.
If the construction is completed by November, the 101-story landmark tower will be the second tallest building in Korea following the Lotte World Tower in Seoul.
The two 85-story residential towers will accommodate a total of 882 apartments, a shopping mall and a water park.
The amount of concrete used for LCT The Sharp is 610,000 cubic meters, which can be used to build 6500 apartments of approximately 85 square meters. The amount of steel used for the LCT project is 110,000 tons, more than double that of Lotte World Tower.
POSCO E&C will apply concrete outrigger belt walls in between floors to endure strong winds and earthquakes of magnitude 6.5. They also plan on constructing buildings with HSA800, a new high performance steel developed by POSCO, to withstand earthquakes. HSA800 has 40 percent more strength compared to existing structural steel.
In addition, it will build a wind-resistant system that can withstand the maximum wind speed of 98 meters per second and a salt-resistant system to slow corrosion.
“We will do our best to successfully complete the construction of the Haeundae LCT project and provide the best residential facility to our customers,” a POSCO E&C official said. “By doing so, we hope to stimulate the regional economy.”
