GS Caltex, the nation’s second-largest oil refiner, is expanding its corporate social responsibility (CSR) drive for the sustainable growth of society.

Under the slogan “A beautiful world with energy,” the company has in recent years sought to become a more socially-dedicated company by conducting CSR activities in child education, elderly welfare and cultural development.

One of the CSR activities is psychotherapy for children. The company started its “Heart Talk Talk” campaign in 2013, helping children with depression, emotional anxiety and aggressive tendencies.

The company has collaborated with art therapists who teach dance, music and drawing to children. This is widely used as a part of non-verbal psychological treatment, allowing those in need to express their suppressed emotions effectively, according to the company.

The GS affiliate also partnered with the Ministry of Education in running mental therapy centers across the nation. In February next year, the two will hold a conference to analyze the results of the program.

More than 9,800 children and teenagers have taken advantage of therapy since 2013, the company said. To support the program, GS Caltex executives and employees have so far donated 2.6 billion won ($2.42 million).

For the welfare of the regional community, the oil refiner has also conducted a free-lunch program for the elderly since May 2008, providing 690,000 meals over more than eight years.

On top of that, the company has also dedicated itself to providing learning opportunities for teenagers and college students by running what it calls the “GS Caltex Scholarship” program. For the past two decades from 1996, the company and its employees have donated more than six billion won for the scholarship fund.

“GS Caltex will continue to push ahead with more diverse CSR activities, as part of our efforts to become more socially-responsible and help drive the sustainable growth of society,” a company official said. (Advertorial)
