Toyota Korea unveiled the all-new Camry sedan, Thursday, seeking to widen its customer range with its enhanced performance and design.
Based on Toyota’s new TNGA platform, the Japanese carmaker’s local sales unit said the eighth-generation model was designed with “unprecedented change” in its development to offer driving pleasure to the nation’s motorists.
“The all-new Toyota Camry has improved performance, style and luxury to satisfy the latest trends in the auto market,” Toyota Korea Sales and Marketing Executive Kang Dae-hwan said during an introduction event held at Some Sevit, a floating island at the Banpo Hangang Park in Seoul.
“An increasing number of people are concerned about environmental issues, and I believe this trend will boost the all-new Camry’s sales. We aim to sell 5,000 all-new Camry sedans next year, up 20 percent from this year’s sales.”
The model comes with two engine options _ a 2.5-liter in-line V4 gasoline and a hybrid.
The 2.5-liter gasoline model can get 10.7 kilometers per liter in the city and 14.9 kilometers on the highway. It produces a maximum of 207 horsepower with a 24.8-kg.m torque with the eight-speed transmission system.
The hybrid model is also powered by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine along with a 120-horsepower electric motor. It gets 17.1 kilometers in the city and 16.2 kilometers on the highway _ first class in the nation’s fuel efficiency rating.
It generates a maximum of 211 horsepower with a 22.5-kg.m torque while it produces only 95-gram-per-kilometer carbon dioxide emissions.
In a bid to differentiate the model from its predecessor, a Toyota Korea official said the eighth-generation Camry has been upgraded in design to attract young motorists under its development slogan of “Keen Look.”
The extended head grille and sleek daylight headlamps symbolize the model’s dynamic driving characteristics on its exterior.
It also features the Toyota Safety Sense to provide various advanced driver assistance systems to prevent accidents while it protects passengers with the 10-watt SRS airbag system.
“The all-new Camry hybrid will bring a new wave in the nation’s sedan market,” said Toyota Korea President and CEO Yoshida Akihisa. “With the model, Toyota Korea will do its best to satisfy its customers.”
The all-new Camry gasoline model sells for 35.9 million won ($31,660) while the hybrid model sells for 42.5 million won.
