Hyundai Motor’s luxury division Genesis has unveiled an artist’s impression of the G70 sports sedan, which Hyundai Motor said is expected to be the carmaker group’s fastest vehicle model
Boasting acceleration that reaches 100 kilometers per hour in 4.7 seconds, Hyundai Motor said the Genesis G70 is an elegant but dynamic mid-size luxury sedan featuring the country’s largest carmaker’s latest driving technologies.
“The Genesis G70 is a sports sedan in which three elements of design, driving performance and luxury achieve a perfect balance,” a Genesis official said during a media preview held at the Hyundai Motor Studio in Seoul, Friday.
“The model will offer a new set of standards to compete against German premium carmakers in the mid-size luxury sedan market.”
Sharing its production platform with the Kia Motors Stinger sedan, the Genesis G70 also has three engine options _ a 2.0-liter and 3.3-liter gasoline turbo engines as well as a 2.2-liter diesel engine.
Of them, the 3.3-liter gasoline engine model, which is expected to be named ‘the G70 Sports,’ can reach 100 kilometers per hour in 4.7 seconds with a maximum speed of 270 kilometers per hour, even faster than its sister brand’s Stinger GT sedan with 4.9 seconds acceleration. Featuring the Variable-ratio Gear Steering (VGR) and Electronic Control Suspension (ECS), the model also offers an agile steering response and optimal ride comfort.
Like the Kia Stinger sedan, the G70 is installed with the Rack-type Motor Driven Power Steering (R-MDPS) and the multi-link suspension in the rear. With its dynamic torque vectoring system and mechanical limited slip differential, the sports sedan can travel safely on wet and snowy roads.
The Genesis G70 also mounts the large-size Brembo brake system with its cooling system to sport a powerful brake performance matched with darting acceleration.
Genesis also said the model features the carmaker’s latest technologies in safety.
Along with its 9-way airbag, the Genesis G70 is equipped with an active hood system, which is automatically elevated to minimize impact in the case of collisions.
It also features Hyundai Motor’s latest advanced driver’s assistance systems such as the Highway Driving Assistance, Driver Attention Warning and Backside Collision Warning.
The Genesis G70 sedan is priced between 37.5 million ($33,467) and 52.3 million won.
In a bid to introduce the G70 sports sedan more effectively, the carmaker is operating private showrooms in the nation’s major cities like Seoul, Daegu, Incheon and Busan until Sept. 15.
