Volkswagen Korea seeking comeback through strengthened service

Volkswagen Korea is putting its utmost efforts into upgrading its customer service, looking for a successful return after it wins back sales certifications from the government for 80 banned vehicles, the German carmaker’s unit operating here said Wednesday.

An official said it is expanding its service network to enhance its competitiveness in the Korean market long term.

“Volkswagen Korea is currently building new service centers in Pohang and Busan while aiming to complete renovations of its showroom in Guri, Gyeonggi Province, into a service center by the end of the first half this year,” she said.

“Also, we have decided to extend the working hours of service centers across the country. Our service centers now open even on weekends. Thanks to the enhanced capacity of our service centers, a total of 286,000 cars received related services at our centers in 2016, which is up 13 percent from a year ago.”

Volkswagen Korea introduced the so-called "Direct Express Service Center" in September last year, where owners can get basic maintenance services, including oil changes and tire maintenance, without having to make reservations.

It also launched the so-called “My Volkswagen” Website in May where a Volkswagen driver can check up the company’s service information and benefits. The internet-based service shows diverse service data of a vehicle, including warranty period and maintenance history. A driver can also get a service coupon at the Website.

The official also said it joined the Kakao Talk Yellow ID service last March to provide one-on-one service for busy customers. The service is listed on Kakao Talk under the name “Volkswagen Korea customer support service.” Its operating hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In a bid to provide more professional and efficient services at its centers, the German automaker's local unit also built the Volkswagen Technical Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, last August. It is the lead service center for Volkswagen's service centers across the country.

Master automotive technicians at the Yongin center provide advice and technical assistance to mechanics at Volkswagen service centers throughout the nation through real-time phone cameras.

The center also offers educational workshops for local mechanics with the latest technical information and maintenance tips online.
