Recycling agency promises eco-friendly Olympic Games

The Korea Recycling Service Agency (KORA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG), at the POCOG office in PyeongChang, Gangwon Province, Tuesday.
The two organizations promised to make the Winter Games eco-friendly, recovering and recycling waste during the games.
The MOU is expected to promote Korea’s recycling policies and technologies to athletes, spectators and press who visit PyeongChang, and to help Korea’s technologies expand toward overseas markets, KORA stated in its press release.
KORA will make and install 500 recycling bins at stadiums and at the athletes village to separately collect recyclable materials.
An affiliate company of KORA in Gangwon Province will collect and recycle waste.
POCOG will provide KORA with a hall for promoting Korea’s recycling policies and technologies.
The two will co-host an exhibition for an up-cycling event and a contest to promote eco-friendly Olympics.
Both promised to fulfill seven tasks of the MOU, which include holding regular advisory council meetings for efficient waste disposal and exchanging information.
“POCOG will ensure an eco-friendly Winter Games, collaborating with the KORA,” said POCOG Vice President Kim Sang-pyo. “We will let the whole world know that Korea is an environmentally developed country that recycles materials efficiently.”
KORA President Shim Moo-kyung said, “KORA will fully support the POCOG to host eco-friendly and successful Winter Games.”
KORA is a public-service corporation, which collects and recycles packing materials and empty containers.
It was established in 2013 to ensure a stable demand and supply of recyclable materials and to contribute to economic development and public welfare.
