AmorePacific held the 2016 Seoul Pink Ribbon Love Marathon at Yeouido Park in southern Seoul, Sunday.
Korea’s top cosmetics firm has hosted the marathon event every year since 2001 with the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation to raise public awareness of breast cancer. The event has provided some useful information for breast health and self-examination methods to participants.
The nationwide marathon event is held in Seoul in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Pink Ribbon Love Marathon was also held in Busan in April, Daejeon in May, Gwangju in June and Daegu in September this year.
At Sunday’s Seoul event, 10,000 participants in pink T-shirts ran the 5- to 10-kilometer race alongside Yeouido Park. U.S. Ambassador to Korea Mark Lippert, Hera Cosmetics commercial model Jun Ji-hyun and Korea Breast Cancer Foundation officials participated in the event as well.
Sponsored by several brands, including Hera and Aritaum, various events were held at the venue to raise awareness. The seven members of “Pink Generation” ― goodwill ambassadors of the Pink Ribbon campaign ― went around the venue and posted the voices of participants and scenes of the event online in real time.
“It is an honor to join the biggest Pink Ribbon promotional event and the biggest Pink Ribbon Marathon festival in Korea, with 10,000 participants and sponsors this year,” said Noh Dong-young, chairman of the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation, delivering a congratulatory speech. “Our foundation will continue to promote the event for women’s health.”
The entrance fees of the event will be donated to the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation in order to provide financial assistance for low-income patients with breast cancer. The foundation has donated more than 2.9 billion won ($2.6 million) paid by 275,000 participants.
