Renault Samsung Motors has been pushing sales of its QM3 compact SUV ahead of the end of the government’s temporary consumption tax cut on automobiles this month.
The company is offering hefty discounts in December for the QM3, which has led the local fad for compact SUVs.
The carmaker says customers can purchase cars at prices reduced by as much as 2 million won this month.
For a vehicle priced at 25 million won, customers can get a nearly 500,000 won discount due to the tax cut.
For cash payments, 1 million won will be supported by the carmaker, while an additional 500,000 won will be provided if they trade their old Renault, registered before December 2010, for a new car.
The tax cut, however, only applies to cars delivered this month. So if the customer makes a contract to purchase the car this month, but cannot take delivery due to short supply or delivery time lag, they cannot get the benefits.
“Among the compact SUVs, the QM3 is the only model that customers can take delivery of this month. With the expanded supply, following its continuing popularity, the QM3 is the best deal,” said a Renault Samsung official.
Total sales of the QM3 reached 21,541 as of November this year, up 45 percent year-on-year, leading the carmaker’s local sales.
The latest QM3, with its engine meeting the Euro 6 emission standards, boasts greater fuel economy and driving performance. Its fuel efficiency is 17.7 kilometers per liter, the highest among compact cars, while producing 90 horsepower.
One of the outstanding features of the car is its tablet navigation system, Tablet to Car (T2C). The detachable tablet PC on the center fascia, co-developed with SK Telecom, provides various infotainment services including T Map navigation, audio and video entertainment and rearview camera monitoring.
By placing it in the station at the center of the fascia, the system starts to work, but when separated it can work as a personal tablet PC.
The price for the QM3 ranges from 22.39 million won to 25.33 million won.
The QM3 with the Euro 6 standard engine is priced 300 Euros more in the European market, than the older models with EU 5 standard engines, the company said.
Despite the updated features of the new car, the company highlighted that its price increase is minimal, or has no increase at all because of the tax cut.
