Hyundai Motor reveals recruitment guidelines
By Park Jin-hai
Hyundai Motor Group, the most sought-after workplace among fresh university graduates alongside Samsung Group, disclosed its recruitment criteria on its official website Monday.
The criteria, directly delivered from its point man on recruitment, rate cover letters relevant to the jobs as the most important, followed by basic GPA requirements, English ability and academic background.
This is the first time that Hyundai Motor has made such information public.
The company said if an applicant is deemed to have motivation for a particular job, a low GPA score and poor academic background will be considered less important.
Analysts say that this is part of the company’s efforts to come closer to job seekers in line with the government policy to hire more young people.
Hyundai Motor Group is looking to hire some 4,000 people, while over 100,000 are expected to apply for the jobs.
In writing the cover letter, the sincerity of the person will be preferred to flawless writing skills.
“Although it may sound less professional, applicants telling their stories sincerely will appeal. As for knowledge about automobiles, this should be from the applicant’s personal knowledge, rather than picked from the Internet,” the company said.
It also dismissed the rumor that the company regards backgrounds as important, saying that that a single criteria cannot meet the various needs of different jobs. It said the ability to think progressively and make the correct choices in life and jobs is what is more important.
As for the Hyundai Motor Group Aptitude Test, also known as HMAT, the company said if applicants failed the test for one affiliate, they can still apply for other affiliates.
English ability will be regarded importantly in interviews, where actual communication skills will be tested.
In a history essay, the company will review thoughts on historical incidents, where no correct answer exists.
Jang Mu-jung, Hyundai Motor personnel division head, said what the company expects from new employees are three basic skills regarding the workplace, job and human relations.
“The person should have love and responsibility for his job. In human relations, we expect the person to have basic manners and consideration,” he said.
The recruitment criteria will be applied to all Hyundai Motor Group affiliates.
