Chrysler recalls more than 6,000 cars over faulty Takata air bags

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is voluntarily recalling more than 6,000 vehicles sold here because of their faulty Takata air bags, which has already have led to the recall of tens of millions of cars around the world, the land ministry said Friday.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said that the cars’ air bag inflator may ignite with excessive force, in some cases causing its metal cartridge to crack and injure the driver or passengers of the car when deployed.
The recall affects 6,322 cars sold by FCA Korea, the local importer and distributor of Chrysler vehicles.
They include 5,672 Chrysler 300C passenger cars produced between April 21, 2004 and June 19, 2008; 595 Dodge Dakota pickup trucks produced between Oct. 15, 2004 and May 24, 2011; and 55 Dodge Durango SUVs produced between April 21, 2004 and June 19, 2008.
Takata air bags have led to the recall of more than 30 million vehicles in the United States alone.
In a separate case, Japanese automaker Nissan Motor is recalling 296 cars sold here because of a defective engine start button. The button may get stuck in the pushed down position, causing the engine to stop.
Nissan Jukes produced between Aug. 30 and Oct. 22 of 2013 are subject to the recall.
Volvo Group Korea is also recalling 90 XC90 passenger cars produced between Sept. 22, 2008, and Oct. 20, 2009, because its cooling fan may damage a power steering hose, leading to oil leaks and causing steering problems.
Free repair services for affected cars are currently available at their respective service centers.
