Pernod Ricard has launched a low-alcohol spirit drink here, targeting female customers.

The new beverage, named Eclat by Imperial, is a whisky-based spirit with a pomegranate flavor and alcohol content of 31 percent, lower than the 40 percent of other whiskies.

As the name Eclat means radiance, the new drink sells in a curved bottle. The imperial blended Eclat has less alcohol which female drinkers can enjoy for its light and smooth taste.

“Eclat is created for women who are leading the various lifestyle changes in modern society,” said Pernod Ricard Korea CEO Jean Manuel Spriet during Eclat’s launch ceremony in southern Seoul, Wednesday.

“With the iconic Eclat brand, we will continue to appeal to women drinkers of high tastes that are looking for trendy drinks.”

A 450-milliliter bottle of Eclat is priced at 36,300 won. It will be available to buy at the end of this month.

As the number of young and female customers has increased over recent years, liquor makers are shifting their focus to lower-alcohol drinks to meet growing consumer demand for mild liquor.

Sales of Windsor, Johnnie Walker and other hard-liquor brands have been declining. The local sales of hard liquor declined about 3.7 percent nationwide in 2014 from 2013.

However, local liquor maker’s whisky Golden Blue, with lowered alcohol content of 36.5 percent, single-handedly recorded 60 percent year-on-year sales growth last year. In March, British liquor company Diageo also launched low-alcohol whisky W Ice by Windsor to tap the fast growing low-alcohol spirit market.
