Kumho Tire is supporting multiracial families in Korea by helping 10 wives from Vietnam visit their mother country, the company said Friday.
It added that they left for Vietnam with their children, Friday, and the tire-maker will sponsor their six-day trip, covering their expenses, including airline tickets.
During the trip, they will meet with their families and have a chance to visit the firm’s local plant.
Kumho decided to sponsor the trip for the Vietnamese wives of Korean men because many of them can’t afford a trip home because of the expense involved.
Nguyen Thi Thuy, who was one of the 10 women chosen for the program, said she was so happy that she can see her parents for the first time since she married a Korean man in 2005.
“I’m so glad that I can go to my hometown and introduce my child, who is now en elementary school student, to my parents,” the 28-year-old said before leaving for Vietnam from Incheon International Airport.
She expressed her gratitude to Kumho Tire for supporting Vietnamese wives in Korea.
The company said it will continue to organize programs to support multiracial families in Korea.
“We also find the program very meaningful, because it can help Vietnamese wives in Korea better adapt to the new environment in the foreign country,” said Kim Soo-ok, general affairs and administration vice-president at Kumho Tire. “We will also continue to work hard to enhance the relationship between Korea and Vietnam.”
With a growing presence in Vietnam, Kumho Tire has been actively engaged in various corporate social responsibility activities.
Previously, the firm provided an injured Vietnamese worker with months of rehabilitation and medical treatment in 2012 so that he could return to work at the company’s plant in Vietnam.
