Shinhan offers customized products

A rookie office worker surnamed Jeong recently found a new smartphone application for couples called “Pit-a-pat Couple Shot.”
The 26-year-old downloaded the application without hesitation because it provides social network services for only two people in the world ― her and her boyfriend.
Moreover, the new application can alert them of important occasions such as birthdays and Valentine’s Day, among others. Most of all, it was free.
Jeong also realized that she can benefit from higher interest rates at banks which the app provides. She and her boyfriend agreed to save 100,000 won every month until next year to celebrate the 1,000th day since they first met.
Shinhan Bank’s new couple-customized products provide higher interest rates for those who register as couples through the lender’s smartphone application.
Korea’s third-largest bank by assets said Wednesday that it released the “Couple Savings Account” and the “Couple Installment Account” last month to better cope with the younger generations’ lifestyle.
The Couple Savings Account offers an additional 0.3 percentage points over the usual interest rate, which was 4.3 percent as of May 23. The Couple Installment Account provides up to 4.46 percent in interest rate who deposit savings between 5 million won to 10 million won.
People can download the “Shinhan S Bank” application from app stores to access these services.
Shinhan is also hosting a couple photo contest through Friday to promote the new services. Customers will receive presents such as couple rings and gift certificates for amusement parks when they enter.
The lender also provided free coffee gift cards to 7,000 customers who downloaded the app on a first-come first-served basis last month.
“We introduced the smartphone-related product as the younger generation are buying the handsets,” said a Shinhan official. “We focused on encouraging cordial relationships between people. We will continually develop products to meet the new needs of customers.”
