Lotte Shopping ranked worlds 6th-biggest retailer

Lotte Shopping Co., Korea's top department store chain operator, said Monday that it has been selected as the world's sixth-largest retailer by assets, sales, net profit and market value by U.S. economic magazine Forbes.

Lotte Shopping, which operates Lotte Department Store, the No. 1 local department store chain, posted $21.1 billion in assets, $13.7 billion in sales, $614.1 million in net profit in 2009 and $11 billion in market capitalization in 2011.

Lotte Shopping shared the sixth-place spot with Chile's Falabella, the company said.

Lotte Shopping's ranking is higher than two U.S. retailers -- Sears and Nordstrom -- and Japan's Isetan Mitsukoshi, the company said.

France's PPR topped the list, followed by Kohl's and Macy's of the U.S.

Forbes has released the list of the top 2,000 global companies in terms of assets, sales, net profits and market capitalization since 2003. The magazine set up the category of department store for the first time this year. (Yonhap)
