24 firms to join the W1 tril. club in operating profit

As many as 24 Korean companies are expected to surpass the 1 trillion won mark in operating profits among the listed firms in 2010.

According to disclosure on business operation by individuals and FnGuide, a securities information service provider, among the 24 firms are Samsung Electronics, steelmaker POSCO, shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries, chipmaker Hynix, Hyundai Motor Co., LG Chemical, phone service provider KT, mobile phone service provider SK Telecom, autoparts maker Hyundai Mobis, the Industrial Bank of Korea (IBK) and SK Innovation (formerly SK Energy).

The others are Kia Motors Corp., LG Corp., LG Display, the Korea Exchange Bank, Samsung Card, Samsung Life Insurance, Lotte Shopping, Korean Air, Hyundai Steel and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DMSE).

Three banking giants, Woori(about 1.3 trillion won), Shinhan (more than 3 trillion won and Hana(more than 1 trillion won) are expected to join the club easily, according to the banking community. They will disclose their book in February.

Samsung Electronics topped the list with 17.3 trillion won on the turnover of 154.63 trillion won. The operating profits of Samsung is similar with the combination of the next five largest operating profit makers-- POSCO with 5,047 billion won, Hyundai Heavy Industries with 3,439.4 billion won, Hynix with 3,273.1 billion won, Hyundai Motor Co. with 3,226.6 billion won and LG Chemical with 2.830.4 billion won.

At least 14 firms newly joined the club last year. They include Hynix, KT(2,053.3 billion won), IBK(1,750.5 billion won, estimate), SK Innovation(1,706.8 billion won), LG Corp. (1,480.6 billion won, estimate), Korea Exchange Bank(1,282.4 billion won, estimate), Samsung Card (1,232.8 billion won), Samsung Life Insurance (1,204.6 billion won, estimate), Lotte Shopping (1,146.5 billion won), Korean Air (1,119.2 billion won), Hyundai Steel (1.037.6 billion won), DSME (1,006.6 billion won, estimate) and Hana Financial Group.

In particular, Hynix marked as much as 3,273.1 billion won in operating profits last year from 115.8 billion won in operating loss in 2009.

On the other hand, LG Electronics and KT&G failed to retain their membership of the club last year. KT&G earned operating profits of 925 billion won.

The other members are SKT with 2,053.3 billion won, Hyundai Mobis with 1,803.3 billion won, Kia Motors Corp. with 1,680.2 billion won, LG Display with 1,310.5 billion won).

Three banking giants, Woori, Shinhan and Hana are expected to join the club easily, according to the banking community.

Just below the club were Samsung Heavy Industries with 997.2 billion won, Shinsegae with 992.7 billion won and SK Holdings registered 911.6 billion won.

The number of W1 trillion won members are expected to increase as more listed companies have to disclose their earnings and there would be not a few unlisted companies, said an FnGuide spokesman.

There are mixed reactions on the increase of the W1 trillion club members. Some said that such a large number of club members is a signal that Korean companies have entered the new phase of their competitive edge. Others said that they benefited from the depreciation policy of the Korean currency against the U.S. dollar by the government.

가 가| 이메일| 프린트 지난해 영업이익이 1조원을 넘은 상장사가 사상 처음으로 24개이 이를 것으로 나타났다. 이미 실적을 발표한 상장사 중 16개 업체가 영업이익 1조원을 넘었고 2월부터 실적을 발표하는 금융사를 더하면 최소 20개사가 1조원대 영업이익을 올리게 된다.

증권정보 제공업체인 에프엔가이드는 29일 비금융 상장사 중에서 지주회사 LG[003550]와 대우조선해양[042660] 등 2곳이 추가로 ‘1조 클럽’에 명단을 올릴 것으로 보인다고 밝혔다. 업계에서는 LG가 1조4806억원, 대우조선해양이 1조328억원의 영업이익을 거둔것으로 추정하고 있다.

여기에 금융권에서 4~6개사가 영업이익과 순이익에서 모두 1조원을 웃돌 것으로 예상된다. 이에 따라 지난해 영업이익 1조원을 넘긴 ‘1조 클럽’은 최대 24개사에 달할 것이라는 분석이다. 2009년의 15개사보다는 9개사 정도 늘어난다.

상장사별로는 삼성전자가 17조2천965억원으로 독보적인 위상을 지켰고, 포스코는 5조470억원으로 5조원대에 올라섰다. 현대차와 하이닉스, 현대중공업은 나란히 3조원대 이익을 냈다. LG화학(2조8304억원)과 KT(2조533억원), SK텔레콤(2조350억원)는 2조원을 넘겼다.

그밖에 대한항공이 1조1192억원, 롯데쇼핑이 1조1465억원으로 각각 항공업계와 유통업계 처음으로 1조원대 이익을 기록했다. 자동차 부문에서는 기아차가 1조6802억원, 현대모비스가 1조8033억원으로 1조원대를 지켰다. 현대제철(1조376억원)까지 더하면 현대차그룹에서 ‘1조 클럽’이 4개사나 탄생했다.

SK그룹에서는 SK텔레콤에 이어 SK이노베이션(옛 SK에너지)이 1조768억원의 영업이익을 냈다. LG그룹에서는 LG전자가 극심한 실적부진에 빠진 가운데 LG화학과 LG디스플레이(1조3105억원)가 그룹의 체면을 세웠다. 금융권에서는 삼성카드가 영업이익 1조229억원, 순이익 1조1562억원으로 가장 먼저 ‘1조 클럽’에 이름을 올렸다.

내달부터는 주요 은행들이 실적발표에 나선다. 금융기관은 영업이익이 아닌 순이익을 수익성의 기준으로 삼는다. 신한지주는 3조원대 영업이익, 2조5000억원대 순이익이 예상된다. 우리금융과 기업은행은 나란히 1조3000억원대 순익을 달성할 전망이다. 하나금융과 외환은행은 1조원대 순익에 ‘턱걸이’할 것으로 보인다. 보헙업계에서는 삼성생명(3월 결산법인)이 1조6000억원대 순익을 거둘 것으로 점쳐진다.
