Min Byong-duk tapped as KB head

Min Byong-duk, vice president of the Kookmin Bank’s retail marketing segment, will replace Kang Chung-won, who stepped down on July 13 from the top post of Kookmin Bank, the country's top lender.

KB Financial Group Monday appointed the new chief of its flagship banking unit, two weeks after the swearing-in of the new chairman.

A spokesman said that Min's appointment should obtain approval from a shareholders meeting scheduled for Thursday.

The group also said it had appointed Lim Young-rok, a former vice finance minister, as the president of KB Financial. Lim's nomination doesn't require a nod from shareholders.

Euh Yoon-dae, a confidant of President Lee Myung-bak, took office as the KB Financial chairman on July 13, vowing to boost its profitability and competitiveness.

국민은행장에 민병덕씨 내정

KB금융지주는 26일 차기 국민은행장으로 민병덕 개인영업그룹 부행장을 내정했다고 밝혔다.

KB금융은 이날 계열사 대표추천위원회를 열어 이 같이 결정했다.

민 내정자는 대전 보문고와 동국대를 졸업하고 구 국민은행에 입행해 경서지역본부장과 남부영업지원본부장을 거쳐 2008년부터 영업그룹 부행장을 맡고 있다.

충청도 천안 출신인 민 내정자는 온화한 성품이지만 뚝심있게 업무를 추진하는 스타일로 알려져 지역을 배려한 가운데 국민은행의 화합과 단결에 중점을 둔 인선이라는 평가가 나오고 있다.

KB금융은 직원 대표 1천300여 명의 설문조사 결과를 바탕으로 상위 득표자인 민 부행장과 최기의 전략본부 부행장, 이달수 KB데이타시스템 사장 등 3명에 대해 면접을 실시해 민 부행장을 단독 행장 후보로 내정한 것으로 알려졌다.

민 내정자는 오는 29일쯤 국민은행 주주총회와 이사회를 거쳐 공식 취임한다.
