LG Electronics has invited South Korean residents to a competition to create original designs for their unreleased line of plasma-screen TVs.
The contest aims to better reflect the consumer market's design preferences, said Lee Woo-kyung, an LG executive. The company wants to create a TV model that would be "well-matched to real life," he added.
The design will be applied to the frame of the TV, in an effort to create appliances that would blend in with the interior decoration of living rooms. Lee added that the TV will have a seamless line between its frame and screen, with hidden speakers.
The first prize is 2 million won and an older TV, with four runner-ups receiving similar editions of a plasma-screen model. The winner will also have an opportunity to collaborate with LG designers if their pattern is selected.
The contest deadline is July 31 and the new model is set to launch in August. All individuals living in South Korea are eligible and can visit the official Web site (www.xcanvas.co.kr) for more details.
