GS Donates W3 Billion to the Needy
GS Group donated 3 billion won ($2.2 million) to the Community Chest of Korea Tuesday to help underprivileged neighborhoods.
On top of the donation by the group, each of its subsidiaries will be engaged in their own donation and volunteering programs.
GS Caltex, the group's energy and petroleum subsidiary, set a fund through a matching grant program in which the company donates the same amount of money for every penny donated by its employees. The fund has been spent on granting the wishes of underprivileged children, senior citizens and disabled people in 17 facilities around the country. Its employees have also been participating as volunteers in the program.
GS Retail, meanwhile, has been donating briquettes and kimchi to needy neighbors this winter. It also runs a blood donation campaign for the Red Cross. It plans to get 2,008 people to participate in the campaign this year.
GS Homeshopping had a coin donation ceremony with The Beautiful Foundation, in which 100,000 piggy banks were collected for underprivileged children. It also runs a campaign to knit caps for newborns in Africa jointly with the Save the Children Foundation.
GS EPS, the group's power generating business, has been setting a matching grant, in which employees donate 1 percent of their salary every month for people in need. The firm donated solar energy facilities to social welfare centers.
GS Engineering & Construction has been repairing homes for underprivileged neighborhoods.
