The nation's top economic policymakers will get together Tuesday to discuss countermeasures against shockwaves from the collapse of the two U.S. banking giants ― Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch.
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) said Monday that it will beef up the monitoring of the local financial markets and will supply foreign reserves when necessary through consultation with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the Bank of Korea.
``The domestic financial markets will be affected by aftereffects of the bankruptcy of Lehman and the sale of Merrill Lynch, but external shocks remain manageable,'' FSC Chairman Jun Kwang-woo said.
