Finance Minister Hires Economic Advisor

Nelson Ahn, guest researcher of the Korea Institute of Finance (KIF), was appointed as an economic advisor to the Finance and Economy Minister Kwon O-kyu, the Ministry of Finance and Economy said Sunday.
Most recently, Ahn worked with Sidley Austin LLP based in New York as an equity partner specializing in mergers and acquisitions (M&As). Prior to taking various positions in the private sector, he worked as senior lawyer for the U.S. Federal Reserves from 1988 to 1993, undertaking a range of financial regulatory oversights as well as providing consultations to private companies about financial laws and regulations.
Throughout his career, Ahn has offered advice to a number of companies, including ING Group, AIG Group and General Electric, on corporate investment and M&As. He has also been providing financial advice to Korean policymakers since the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis.
The ministry said Ahn is an international expert on financial supervision who possesses a balanced and market-friendly view.
Born in Seoul in 1962, Ahn studied Political Economics at London School of Economic and Political Science, and received Bachelor's degree on Economics from Columbia University in 1985. In 1988, he graduated from Boston College School of Law and became a lawyer.
