Hyundai Unveils Fuel-Cell Concept Car in Frankfurt

Hyundai Motor said Tuesday it has unveiled its first version of a hydrogen-fed fuel cell vehicle, based on its i30 compact car.

In a statement, Hyundai said the top speed of the "i-Blue" model is 165 kilometers per hour and has a cruising range of 600 kilometers.

The first version is being introduced at Europe's largest automobile industry fair this week in Frankfurt, the South Korean automaker said.

``The i-Blue will show Hyundai Motor's vision of eco-friendly vehicles,'' Hyundai Motor President Lee Hyun-soon said in the statement. A fuel cell creates electricity through a reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

Amid rising oil prices and consumers' growing affection for ``cleaner'' cars, automakers are responding at the Frankfurt show by introducing vehicles that are more fuel efficient and non-polluting.
