Samsung CEO Calls for Customer-Oriented Reform
Samsung Electronics CEO Yun Jong-yong said the company should take a customer-oriented approach in marketing new products and reforming its organizations.
Yun, in his monthly speech to employees, also said the company should utilize the Internet in recognizing customers' needs and developing them into innovative products.
The speech came after the Samsung Restructuring Office, the control tower of Korea's largest business group, hinted that there would be restructuring of the workforce at some of its affiliate companies.
``When the industry is slowly growing and the future looks unclear, we have to go back to the basics _ our customers. Our products and our organizations should be customer-oriented,'' he said in a statement released Monday.
``Our customers have higher levels of information and knowledge than before thanks to the development of the Internet and other IT technologies. They are fussier than before,'' he said. ``In the past, price and quality were all that mattered. But these days, we have to satisfy them with unique features, good brands and designs, user interfaces, and distinguished services and solutions, too.
``We have to know who are our main customers, what they want and how they are changing. Then we keep in mind those things when developing new products,'' he said.
Yun said the Internet can be a key in improving the situation.
``We have to drop all our prejudices and redefine our customers and the market. We have to search for new customers and should be aggressive in the business-to-business market,'' he said. ``The Internet should be utilized in monitoring customers, and in marketing and promotion as well.''
