The 2025 calendar released by the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corp. (KOMSCO) is gaining popularity as the new year draws near. The calendar, which combines the identity of the minting company and money every year, has become a sought-after “rare item," with many wanting to grab a copy.

"We produced about 16,000 copies this year, distributing them for free to organizations related to us and our partners. Due to the positive response, we are considering producing a small additional quantity,” a spokesperson for the company said.

In online communities, there have been inquiries regarding how to get the calendar from the minting company. There are also posts on secondhand trading platforms looking for the calendar.

The popularity of the calendar stems from the common belief among Koreans that "hanging a money calendar will bring in money." The demand seems to have increased even more this year amid continued economic hardships triggered by high inflation and interest rates, according to the minting company.

The calendar this year features actual images of various banknotes and coins, from 50,000 won bills to commemorative coins, giving an impression that "money is within reach.”

KOMSCO CEO Sung Chang-hoon said, “We are very pleased that our calendar has become a medium to deliver luck and hope rather than just a tool to record schedules."
