Korea Securities Depository (KSD) is running a string of programs aimed at improving transparency in the private equity market and speeding up the growth of venture capital in Korea.
Tasked with providing central custody of securities, book-entry transfer and settlement of securities transactions, the KSD said it has been carrying out the programs in line with the financial authority's call.
It said the programs are developed after consulting asset management companies and other relevant businesses.
The programs include an online platform that sorts out more than 240 financial products, including stocks and derivatives, into corresponding groups to provide investors with easier access to the products that interest them.
“We believe that the platform contributes to enhanced risk control and improved efficiency in processing data for the involved parties,” KSD said. “We’ll make our utmost efforts for the platform to settle successfully and make the private equity market more trustworthy.”
Also developed by the KSD is an electronic system that allows investors to find out the size of funds and other collective asset pools run by asset management firms.
The companies are being asked to update transactional records when required to give investors a clearer picture regarding their profitability.
Headquartered in Busan, the KSD has been pushing to facilitate the trading of assets in a digital form. Its latest efforts include a platform for securities tokens, a new form of digital asset which is increasingly being used for fractional asset ownership.
