SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won is set to take part in U.S. tech giant Nvidia Corp.'s annual technology conference for the first time this month, industry sources said Thursday, as the two firms expand ties in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

Chey's visit to Nvidia GTC 2026, which will kick off March 16 for a four-day run in California, comes about a month after his meeting with Nvidia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jensen Huang in Silicon Valley to discuss potential AI collaborations.

The GTC is an annual conference hosted by Nvidia, where the U.S. tech firm introduces updates in the technology sector, encompassing AI chips, robots and autopilot.

Nvidia is widely expected to introduce its next-generation AI platform, Vera Rubin, during the upcoming event.

With the new system employing sixth-generation high bandwidth memory, or HBM4, industry watchers are closely watching for details of Nvidia's cooperation with Samsung Electronics Co. and SK hynix Inc.

In January, industry sources said SK hynix was picked to supply around two-thirds of the HBM4 chips needed for the Vera Rubin platform, although Samsung Electronics started the world's first commercial shipment of HBM4 last month.

The Vera Rubin system to be showcased during this month's event is widely expected to come with Samsung's HBM4.

On the sidelines of the event, Chey and Huang are anticipated to continue discussions on forging ties in the AI segment amid growing demand for high-performance memory chips from the data center industry.

The two companies may also expand cooperation to other areas beyond memory chips, including energy and AI infrastructure, industry watchers added.
