Social media speed up romances

For the first time, the magazines focused their annual sex survey on coupling in the digital age and found that relationships lead to sex more quickly because it's so easy to stay connected by social network service(SNS) like Facebook and texting.

Based on a survey by Shape and Men's Fitness magazines, 80 percent of women and 58 percent of men said they "believed" using social media tools led to having sex sooner with that new person.

Still, the survey also shows that only 38 percent of women actually say they slept with someone sooner because of their level of digital intimacy.

But Dr. Dorree Lynn, a psychologist and author of "Sex for Grownups," said social media are actually fostering a sense of "faux intimacy" among couples. Digital communication, and the time spent engaged in it, may give couples a sense of intimacy, but she said texting and social media don't teach people how to develop genuine relationships.

Meanwhile, the survey showed that lovers usually use texting to get in touch with each other. All the women participating in the survey said they prefer texting to phone calls, but it was only 39 percent for men.

페이스북, 문자 등 소셜 서비스(SNS)로 서로 더 연락하기 쉬워져 커플이 빠른 시간에 깊은 관계로 빠진다는 이색적인 결과가 나왔다.

최근 미국 건강잡지 ‘셰이프’와 ‘맨스 피트니스’는 공동으로 남녀 1200명을 상대로 성생활 설문 조사를 실시했는데 응답자 여성 중 약 80%가 “페이스북 등 소셜 네트워크로 인해 애인과 더 빨리 가까워진다.”고 답했으며 남성은 약 58% 정도가 이에 해당되는 것으로 나타났다.

그러나 실제로 SNS로 더 친밀감을 느껴 잠자리를 더 일찍 했다는 여성은 약 38%였다.

이에 대해 미국 심리학자이자 ‘어른을 위한 섹스’의 저자 도리 린 박사는 “문자 메시지 등 모든 소셜 네트워킹은 (자주 연락을 주고 받기 때문에) 오래 사귀었다는 착각을 일으키지만 현실적인 관계로 발전시키지는 못한다.

한편 연인들이 서로 연락을 주고받을 때 가장 많이 이용하는 수단은 문자 메시지로 나타났다. 설문에 참여한 모든 여성이 전화보다 문자 메시지를 선호한 반면, 남성은 약 39% 정도로 나타났다.
