Moon orders use of 'every possible means' to help Hungary rescue

President Moon Jae-inSouth Korean President Moon Jae-in instructed the government Thursday to use every possible means to rescue South Korean tourists whose boat capsized in Budapest, Hungary, in cooperation with the local authorities, his office said.Moon received a briefing on the incident from Chung Eui-yong, head of the National Security Office, according to Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Ko Min-jung.The president told the government to deploy "all available resources" to rescue them, she said.He "postponed" a luncheon meeting with nearly two dozen civil servants, which he had planned to have at Cheong Wa Dae in recognition of their accomplishments at work.The president also ordered the formation of a government-level response team, headed by Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, she added.The government plans to dispatch a team of 18 officials at Kang's ministry and the National Fire Agency to Hungary as well. The accident happened near the parliament building in Budapest at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday (local time), according to AFP. The doomed boat, named ``Hableany'' (Mermaid), was carrying 35 ― 33 South Korean tourists and two Hungarian crew members. Seven Korean tourists have been rescued and taken to hospital in a stable condition, according to local media. “A group of South Korean tourists were on the cruise. We're trying to figure out details,” a ministry official said. The ministry confirmed the seven dead were Korean. Uijeongbu pushes for building of apartment complexes on sites of former U.S. bases

The local government has submitted a comprehensive development plan to the Gyeonggi provincial government on utilizing the sites of U.S. army bases, some of which will later be moving to Pyeongtaek.Under the plan, more than half the site of Camp Kyle, about 132,000 square meters, will be developed into a residential area as well as 36,000 square meters of the 136,000-square-meter Camp LaGuardia.The city government has been pushing for the building of various facilities there, but failed to pass proposals so far due to opposition from the provincial government.The Gyeonggi provincial government will hold a public hearing on June 5 on whether to approve the plan. If approved, it will seek approval from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
