Young NK females stock up on condoms: report
Condoms are apparently a hot item among female students in North Korea, according to a website focused on the isolated country.Condoms are reportedly difficult to come by in the North, which is under heavy economic sanctions for its nuclear program.According to News Focus International, however, this hasn’t prevented young North Koreans, particularly females, from obtaining the birth control devices.The site said that authorities recently conducted a surprise inspection at Pyongyang’s Geumsung high school, one of the country’s top art schools. The raid was conducted due to rumors that students were circulating DVDs of South Korean dramas.The most frequently found items, however, were condoms. The report said the students handed over the items. The website attributed the popularity of condoms to the North’s growing market economy, where goods, mostly from China, are sold without government supervision.The website says that News Focus International is “editorially led and informed by North Korean exiles from many levels of society.”
