Koreans want to learn more about language and food, data shows.

According to the Korea Publisher Society, books on food and the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) exam ranked among the top 20 bestsellers. The organization gathered the information from book store chain Kyobo Book and online retailer Yes24.

Thanks to the recent popularity of television programs on cooking and dining, people had become more interested in recipes, it said.

The society also said local fiction books were struggling whereas international ones were selling well.
