Moisturizers, part of the daily skincare ritual for most women, can leave skin drier, experts say.

According to skincare brand La Roche-Posay, 70 percent of women say they have sensitive, dry skin and 44 percent have acne.

“Moisturizers are a widespread and silent traitor and an important contributor to skin disease,” the Daily Mail quoted cosmetic dermatologist Rachael Eckel as saying.

She said moisturizers led to the accumulation of "dead surface cells, dryness, large pores, acne and sensitivity,” adding that only 15 percent of those with dry skin need moisturizers.

“[Those with dry skin] tend not to have visible pores and have dry body skin, with conditions like eczema,” she said. “The rest of us have normal skin, which doesn’t need a moisturizer.”
