Thin women who believe they are overweight are more likely to commit suicide than those who think they are normal, a study has found.
According to Yonsei University, women who are underweight think about suicide 2.25 times more than those who think they are of normal weight. The researchers analyzed Korea National Health & Nutrition Examination Survey data on 33,704 people.
About 20 percent of women have thought of suicide whereas only 11 percent of men have.
“This study shows distorted thoughts about their body type can put women at increased risk of mental health issues,” researcher Sin Jae Yong was quoted as saying.
