The government has taken steps to ban chocolate-flavored milk which is high in caffeine content at schools across the country.

When products are sold, they will be required to have a red label, warning children that the product is high in caffeine. The move is intended to boost food safety awareness.

The government has also taken measures to eliminate “money-shaped” food products that fall under the category deemed mentally harmful for children.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said Friday it has submitted the revised bill for the Special Act for Child Protection in Food Safety and Management to the National Assembly for April.

If the bill passes, it will be put into effect after six months.

The products in the category named mentally harmful for children include food in the shape of hwatu (gambling cards), cigarettes or bottles of alcohol. Such products are banned from being sold, or being manufactured, imported, saved, transported or shelved for sales purposes.

Money-shaped food products have been allowed as “money” was determined essential for individuals to function in a capitalist society.
