A 45-minute power nap boosts the memory by five times, research shows.

According to Saarland University in Germany, tests show that when a person is asleep, brain activity known as “sleep spindles” helps consolidate new information. After a nap, participants in the research were able to recall 90 single words and 120 unconnected word pairs.

“The memory performance of the participants who had a power nap was just as good as it was before sleeping, that is, immediately after completing the learning phase,” said Prof. Axel Mecklinger.

“A short nap at the office or in school is enough to improve learning significantly. Wherever people are in a learning environment, we should think seriously about the positive effects of sleep.”
