Drinkers' Sewol ferry reference angers netizens

Netizens recently discovered and criticized an online community for inappropriately mentioning the Sewol ferry disaster to promote their binge culture.

A photo posted on Facebook on Monday shows a placard for a community calling itself “Family Member of Victims for Today Only.”

“Let us play Titanic game no more and switch to Sewol ferry game in a binge!” the placard says in large, bold text. Beneath this is what purports to be the community’s manifesto that reads: “Binge culture promotion campaign in memory of the students who unnecessarily lost their lives in the disaster, with apologies from adults.”

Angry netizens are asking whether the community can be sued.

The Sewol ferry disaster last April claimed more than 300 lives, mostly high school students on their way to Jeju Island.
