Major firms in Korea will recruit only 90 percent of the number of entry-level employees they did last year, a survey shows.

Website Job Korea surveyed 316 of the nation’s top 500 companies with the highest sales.

Among the 252 that answered, only 175 said that they would be hiring entry-level employees this year.

The total number of positions available is 14,029 ㅡ a 10 percent drop from last year’s 15,610.

Overall, shipbuilding and heavy industries expect the greatest drop ㅡ 23.5 percent and 21.8 percent respectively. New positions for the electronics industry are expected to fall 12.8 percent and steel making 11.2 percent, according to the survey.

Firms in the financial sector and construction companies will be offering the most jobs, with entry-level positions decreasing the least ㅡ by 5.8 percent and 6.3 percent respectively.
