The vast majority of people who make New Year’s resolutions usually break them by the end of January and probably ask for a piece of leftover holiday chocolate or cigarettes. But they try to work toward their goals again the following month.
According to local online retailer AK Mall, sales of beauty and healthcare products increased by 73 percent during the first two weeks ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday from December. Such products include weight-loss aids, nutritional supplements and quit-smoking medications.
“Those who gave up their New Year resolutions were in the mood again to buy such products aimed at helping them lead a healthier lifestyle,” an AK Mall spokesperson said.
Sales of products aimed at helping people quit smoking, exercise equipment and sportswear were up 51, 48 and 38 percent, respectively, during the same period.
“Slimming” beauty products, including a lemon detox kit and health foods such as unsweetened Greek yogurt, have been selling strongly, with a 260 percent increase in sales,” the company said.
