Styles from the 1970s will come back into vogue this spring, fashion industry insiders say, so be prepared to stock your closets with buttery silks, suede belts, crochet knits, fringes and flares.
Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a 1970s revival; back in 2011, designer Christopher Kane showed head-to-toe crochet looks and Marc Jacob’s offered 70’s-inspired long dresses.
“We’ve launched some new designs that have a tapered silhouette as these match well with 70s retro pieces,” said a spokesperson for True Religion, an American demin company, according to a press release from fashion PR agency M Public.
The pieces setting the trend for this spring include a plunge-neck crochet dress by Emilio Pucci, suede coat by Derek Lam and patchwork jacket by Saint Laurent.
Denim also made quite a splash on the Spring and Summer 2015 runways. Designers were determined to become more fun and adventurous with denim this season; offering shredded, dark-wash, high-waisted and many other styles.
Denim popped up on the Burberry runway with a cropped indigo mini jacket. Dolce & Gabbana incorporated several pairs of over-the-top bedazzled jeans in their lineup. Stella McCartney’s entire collection is about a series of statement “topstitch separates.”
The reprisal of 1970s fashion means the return of “bellbottoms.”
"There had to be flares," designer Henry Holland was quoted as saying by Marie Claire UK, discussing a model wearing his designs. "That was my woman, she rocks a flare. They were lower cut because I didn’t want to do mum flares - this girl is way cooler. She’s getting out that midriff and she ain’t afraid to show it."
