The popularity of cooking shows is on the rise with hosts introducing easy recipes people can try without much difficulty.

While restaurant review shows such as Olive TV’s “Tasty Road” or Y-STAR’s “Gourmet Road” used to be the major food show trend, cooking shows introducing easy recipes are gaining popularity with viewers.

Lifestyle cable channel Olive TV’s “Today's Menu” with hosts Shin Dong-Yeop and Sung Si-kyung introduces easy food recipes that encourage anyone to try. The menus vary from home-cooked meals such as doenjang stew or kimbap, to cooking know-how presented by famous chefs.

Another popular show, “Three Meals a Day,” on cable channel TVN gained attention for its unique theme ― two men from the city going into rural areas looking for ingredients from nature. Without any fancy or mouth-watering recipes, the show gained popularity by focusing on the pleasure of enjoying meals with loved ones.

The reason for the popularity of such shows is the trend of people trying out recipes introduced on TV. Last year, a certain ramen brand saw a large increase in sales thanks to a recipe introduced on MBC’s “Dad! Where are we going?”
