Fallen star Shin Jung-hwan sued again in fraud case

Former TV entertainer and singer Shin Jung-hwan faces further litigation in a case in which a woman sued him for allegedly defrauding her of 140 million won ($126,000) in June.

Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said Wednesday the woman, surnamed Lee, 62, was suing Shin, 39, for not repaying the money within three months, as he agreed to do in July.

Shin allegedly persuaded Lee he would help her son become a celebrity and borrowed the money to record and produce a studio album for him.

Lee sued him in June for not repaying the money, but dropped the charge the next month after he gave a written pledge to make full repayment within three months.

The former star has had problems with illegal overseas gambling, which has reportedly cost him millions of won in fines as well eight months in jail in 2011.

Shin made his debut with K-pop band Rula in 1994. He reportedly will marry a woman 12 years younger than himself on Dec. 20.
