Gov't touts long undies as energy-saver

Listen

The government has launched a nationwide campaign to encourage civil servants to wear long johns in a bid to conserve energy in the winter.

Organized by the Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs, the campaign involves handing out flyers promoting the use of tight-fitting underwear.

One flyer says that the ideal energy-saving temperature for office buildings is between 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, especially during peak energy usage periods such as between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

If such temperatures have you shivering, the ministry suggests investing in a pair of long undies.

"Public offices need to make the effort across the nation to save energy, and we hope this campaign spreads in influence quickly," a ministry official told Yonhap News Agency.
