Lawmakers met a group of comedians from broadcaster KBS on Wednesday and said they don’t mind being ridiculed during television shows.

Lawmakers from the Science, ICT, Future Planning, Broadcasting and Communications Committee met with the comedians during a visit to the studio of Sunday comedy show Gag Concert.

The performers reportedly expressed concern over their ability to touch on political subjects. The lawmakers urged the comedians to follow their artistic instincts.

“Ignore oppressive views from the outside and concentrate on freely introducing creative contents,” Rep. Woo Sang-ho of the New Politics Alliance for Democracy (NPAD) was quoted as saying.

Rep. Jun Byung-hun of the NPAD complimented the comedians for their craft, which he said takes a high level of intelligence.

The lawmakers’ visit was part of a National Assembly audit that began Oct. 7 and continues for 21 days.
