Boseong residents irked by misleading '100 won taxi' campaign

Listen

South Jeolla Province’s local government is under fire for a new affordable taxi initiative after it hyperbolically offered 100 won ($0.09) cab rides.

Some Boseong county residents complained after the local government release a promotion that showed a taxi with the phrase, “100 won taxi,” on the front window. The residents said this was misleading because the cabs cost 1,200 won.

The starting rate for cabs in Seoul is 3,000 won.

South Jeolla earlier announced that they would operate affordable taxis in 36 villages, following through on a campaign pledge by the Governor Lee Nak-yeon.

An official said the government would do its best to keep taxi fares as affordable as possible.

South Jeolla plans to expand the cheap taxis to Hwasun county by the end of the year and to selected cities next year.
